About Shawn

Much of the design of the calendar was done with the help of astrologer Shawn Sykora. Shawn brought me awareness of the significance of void moons. Shawn agrees with me that the 150 degree Quincunx aspects should be on every transit calendar.

Shawn and I would both like to thank his teacher, Diane Ronngren, for her amazing teaching service. We also would like to thank Cisco of Carroll Righter’s in Los Angeles for his great insights.

Shawn Sykora was born in 1963 in Panorama City and raised in Van Nuys, California. He attended Van Nuys High School and studied math and science at Cal State University Northridge. He has been a student of, and was a teacher at the Carroll Righter Institute in Hollywood. Shawn was a "Pro Astrologer" for Astrolome.com.

Shawn teaches his "Astrology 1234" system which is a system beyond "Sun sign" astrology. A path to "know thyself" and understand more about people and life in general.

Shawn looks forward to helping people unravel their mysteries. His readings include tropical natal charts, secondary progressions, solar arcs, transits, asteroids, horary, composites, synastry, relocation charts and other tools. He uses Solar Fire, Kepler, and Graphic Astrology software. Shawn is a Level 3 Reiki practitioner.

Shawn was privately tutored by astrologer Diane Ronngren. He also studied with astrologers Marian March, Gloria Stein, Arthyr Chadbourne, Ted Phillips, Jr., Loda Shaw, Jr., Judy Johns, Michael Munkasey, Angel Thompson - to name a few.

He worked as a motion picture sound editor for 25 years.

Reviews for Shawn's Astrology work

Thanks so much Shawn for your time today ... it was so informative, and I really appreciate the time you gave me!!!!

Shawn! You have given me a most incredible gift! Very thoughtful and heartfelt. I am very very touched by your kindness and the time you took to do this. I look forward to many years of friendship!! You've given me a lot to think about and explore. I look forward to it with an open heart and mind.

-J.E., Los Angeles, CA

Great presentation, Shawn. I know it is a challenge to crystallize all the facets of astrology in two hours and its mysteries revealed the longer one pursues it.

-P.S., Studio City, CA

Shawn Sykora is the MOST amazing!!! Astrologer!!! I remember when he first looked at my chart; he was able to tell me my life story in about 20min, i mean my early childhood, young adulthood, lessons, life experiences, it blew my mind!!!! all that from just that one piece of paper?! I find his readings to be profoundly aware, accurate..., and significantly personal; which eases my experiences.... the more challenging ones. Most astrologers give you the canned version of the stars in your sky...... Sykora expounds into deep inner awareness on levels of truth and love with sincere kindness and everyday language. He's been my ONLY astrologer for the past 10 yrs..... I love you Shawn!

I loved my 10 mins with you at the Simi Event, so I'm sure you'll give me more insight with my special hour! I'm jazzed!

Love the info! Tx!

Shawn Sykora is well-acquainted with the vast knowledge base of Astrology, and he brings into teaching and chart interpretation many variables that are frequently overlooked or underappreciated by other Astrologers. Shawn Sykora has a comprehensive, all-inclusive style of doing Astrology, and he is able to combine multiple factors into a finely-tuned, insightful, and informative reading.

-R.D., Thousand Oaks, CA

Shawn Sykora is an amazing astrologer and life coach.

Within just 15 minutes of my session he gave me incredible insights into my situation.

This was my second reading from him as his forecasting from the first one was right on target!

-C.P., North Hollywood, CA

Shawn Sykora has created birth charts for both of my children. It was and continues to be a wonderful reference tool to help make those tough intuitive leaps that parenting requires. How my children learn, process information, how their intuitive map works for them; the "reading" helped me to put it all together (shawns help) to have a clearer understanding for the things that were more ambiguous which ultimately has improved the communication of those things to my children in a manner inwhich they "got it!" Leading them to their "Ah Ha" moments of inspiration. Thanks Shawn Love you so much!

U are right on it with your comments.

About Nancy

When I was 12 my mom brought home a copy of Heaven Knows What by Grant Lewi. I felt that one book described me more accurately than any human I had encountered in my life so far.

I met my astrology teacher, Richard Teich, at a Buddhist retreat in Sonoma County. He cast my chart by hand (as it was done back then). He told me all about it - and I was hooked.

So after college, I packed up and moved to San Francisco. There I worked on a Master’s degree in Transpersonal Psychology at the California Institute of Integral Studies, with astrologer Ralph Metzner as my advisor.

With Richard's assistance, we started an astrological chart calculation service called Astro Research Service, providing charts and reports to the public. We used an Apple II computer and Matrix astrology software.

During that time, I did readings and wrote programs that interpreted charts.

In 1992, I went to work for Apple Computer, and in 1997 Sun Microsystems. I continued to do charts for friends throughout the 1990s and 2000s.

Around 2011, I started helping the Los Angeles Chapter of NCGR with their electronic publicity and currently still do.

My philosophy is partly aligned with the theosophical teachings of Alice Bailey and other new age theorists. The Masters - i.e., highly developed beings ‘in-and-out of bodies’ are helping us evolve. The goal is to help humanity use astrology, and usher in the Aquarian Age.

Wow! Thank you for providing this. Presumably Solar Fire can also push personal transits and progressions to Google Calendar too. Will investigate :-)

Graham - Yes, you can make all kinds of calendars with Solar Fire. I've made personal ones too. This calendar is run through a few perl scripts and Word macros I wrote to clean up what I considered things that needed changing.

Good luck!

Hats off to you! This is an excellent calendar and a very useful tool. I am currently working on a few custom calendars with local data from the USNO site, but this takes the cake. Thank you!

Thank you, Nancy! I was searching just for a table of "moon void of course"-times and found this full blown "have it all in my calendar"... great! Yes, "someone" will use the fruit of your work! Thanks a lot, from Germany!

Nancy, I don't know how I stumbled across Your Calendar, but I am so happy that I did. I did notice that the calendar does not have any dates past August of 2016. do you have any plans in the future to update the Astrological events? I have not contributed in any way to your website... ( do you still study astrology?) but I am very grateful for the chance to be able to track my personal moon transits. Thank you so much!!!!

Hi Anonymous,

Yes, I'm going to post the rest of 2016 soon. So glad you like and use the Calendar.

All the best for this next year!

So wonderful! thank you so much...! Do you have another blog? or are you continuing to practice astrology?

Anonymous,

Thanks for your comments. I don't do readings anymore as I am busy now with other things. But I still use the transits myself, and developed the calendar as a tool for my own use. I still do charts for friends when I think it will help. I do have another website for my software developer career at: Schorr Media

Hey... this is great. Would like to do the same for other places like here in London! How is this done, can someone point me in the right direction. Thanks!

11/17/2017 4:02 AM

Nancy Schorr said…

Goldlion973,

Go into your Google Calendar settings and set your time zone for GMT 0 - London. The calendar should then display in your correct time zone.

To redo the calendar is complex, and not necessary.

Hope that helps. Thanks for your feedback!

Thanks for this! I've had it for a while but get overwhlemed with all the moon aspects. Is there a way to switch them off? I've been looking for a way to filter them out but can't seem to find one.

The moon is the fastest planetary body, so it creates a lot of aspects that overwhelm the calendar. Is it possible to limit it to when it enters and remains in a sign?

Hi, thanks for this fantastic resource! I recently learned how to use Solar Fire to generate my personal transits calendar, but I am having some formatting issues (run-on words) when I import the calendar (into Google or Outlook). Might I ask, how did you edit the interpretations file to make changes to the spelling/grammar, and did you have any formatting issues that you were able to resolve? Thanks!

4/07/2022 11:03 PM

Nancy Schorr said…

Thanks for your comment. Look in the Solar Fire manual for how to edit the interpretations. There's a menu item. You just need to find it.

I actually post-process the calendar code to fix the errors. I originally did it with Word macros. Then that became a Java program. There were other things besides spelling errors to fix so the post-processing is necessary.
